Cristobal Leal

Elected by Students - September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025

My name is Cristobal Leal, and my journey to Canada began at the age of thirteen when I moved from the vibrant country of Chile. This significant transition marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life, filled with opportunities and growth. I went on to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology from Toronto Metropolitan University, a field that deepened my understanding of the intricate relationship between our environment and society. Currently, I am proud to be a third-year law student at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law.

My time in law school has been profoundly shaped by my commitment to community service and advocacy. I have had the privilege of volunteering with Pro Bono Students Canada, where I have worked diligently to assist community members with tenant and landlord disputes. This experience has been incredibly rewarding, as it has allowed me to make a tangible difference in people's lives and to witness firsthand the impact of legal assistance on our community.

Before embarking on my legal studies, I was deeply involved with Wrongful Conviction Canada. There, I had the unique opportunity to educate high school students about the challenges faced by wrongfully convicted individuals and the systemic limitations within our criminal justice system. This experience was both eye-opening and humbling, reinforcing my dedication to justice and fairness.

Currently, I serve as the Vice President of External Relationships for the Canadian Hispanic Bar Association, Lincoln Alexander Chapter. In this role, I have been able to foster connections and build bridges within the legal community, advocating for greater representation and support for Hispanic individuals in the legal profession.

I am genuinely excited about the opportunity to bring my passion for community service and my unwavering dedication to justice to my role as a member of the Board of Governors at Toronto Metropolitan University. I am eager to contribute meaningfully during my elected position, supporting the university's mission and values. I believe that my diverse experiences and commitment to advocacy will enable me to offer valuable perspectives and drive positive change within the university community.

It is with great enthusiasm that I look forward to serving on the Board of Governors, working collaboratively with fellow members to enhance the university's impact and uphold its core principles. Together, I am confident that we can create an environment that fosters growth, inclusivity, and excellence for all students and faculty.
