Jack Cockwell
Jack Cockwell is a Board Appointee member of the Toronto Metropolitan University's Board of Governors and served as Vice Chair of the Board, and Chair of the Governance Committee. He previously served on the Board from 1995 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2015, and from 2016 to October 2019. In June 2001 he received a Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) from York University. In June 2004 he was awarded a Doctor of Commerce, (honoris causa) from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson), and in June 2018 an honorary degree from George Brown College. In 2009 he was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame, and in 2016 became a member of the Order of Canada. Mr. Cockwell is a director and former President and CEO of Brookfield Asset Management Inc., and has served in a voluntary capacity on a number of community organization boards including as a Heritage Governor at the Royal Ontario Museum, Chair of Brookfield Partners Foundation, a Governor of Trails Youth Initiatives, a board member of Waterfront Toronto, the Honorary Campaign Chair for the Trans Canada Trail and Chair of Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve. He has also chaired the Building Fundraising Committee for the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education and Ryerson's Real Estate Advisory Committee.
