From The President
I’d especially like to welcome all new members to LIFE and hope that you have a rewarding year here with us. I think you’ll find that we are a friendly group of people interested
in learning more about the world and in discussing and debating the ideas we encounter. Just step up, join in, and take part!
And to all returning members, I know you already enjoy LIFE or you wouldn’t be back. I look forward to getting to know more of you this year in class and at events. The first opportunity to do just that will be the annual Welcome Day to be held on Monday, September 19. Please come to meet some of your moderators and other members for a short program, a dynamite speaker, and lots of good conversation.
Fasten your seat belts: this is going to be a year of change!
We’ll be starting up our brand new website with more information than ever to keep you up to date and connected. Be sure to go online and take a look at us when the site is launched later this Fall—we’ll let you know when that happens. We’re also preparing for Online Registration to be in place for the Winter semester. And there will be lots of help to guide you through that process.
But some good things stay the same – as always, LIFE is ready for another year of learning and friendship. Our Fall Calendar offers you an interesting smorgasbord of more courses than ever, taking you to faraway places and times, examining important current events and issues, and giving you a taste of the arts. Whether you enjoy listening to lectures or participating in classroom discussion, there’s
something here for you. And, after a lively debate about politics or discussion about a book, lots of us continue those debates and discussions over a cup of coffee or lunch at one of the cafeterias on campus and restaurants in the area.
Finally, a heartfelt thanks to everyone who makes this organization possible— our invaluable office administrator, hard-working members of the Board, creative moderators, willing volunteers, and all our members who fill the classes
and make LIFE such a vibrant and friendly place to be.
