Fix a 500 error

If you experience a 500 error on one of your webpages, it may be related to unpublished pages associated with the page in question.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. News, biography or event page issue?
Check that the yearly news archive parent (i.e. 2024, 2025...) AND the monthly archives (01, 02...) have all been published. If they are not, publish all month and year archive pages. Wait ten seconds, then check the live site. You may have to clear your browser cache.
  2. Check that the parent file has been published; if it has never been published or has been unpublished, publish the parent file. Wait ten seconds, reload the page on the live site.
  3. Select the problem page in siteadmin and unpublish it. Wait ten seconds, then publish it. Check the live site to see if the issue is resolved.
  4. If you see any files that have never been published, publish the page(s), and recheck your site to see if the issue is resolved. Again, you may need to clear your browser cache.
  5. If not resolved or multiple pages are affected, navigate to the parent file that contains the problematic pages in the siteadmin and unpublish it. This will unpublish ALL child pages below it as well. Once that’s done, you will need to republish the parent file and ALL child pages.

Caution: if you have content that is not ready for release, you will need to unpublish this content afterwards.
