Educators

SciXchange is excited to offer a variety of educational STEM experiences for classrooms, students and teachers. We send out program and registration information through our Educator Newsletter when updates are available - generally about 6 times per year.

We book activities on a first-come, first-served, basis. In order to ensure our program is accessible to a wide variety of youth, we try to fulfill all requests before re-visiting a group for a second activity.

Cost

All of our programs are free of charge. For in-person classroom visits, our volunteers can bring all the required materials (occasionally we ask you to supply clean-up materials like soap and paper towels).

For on-campus visits, schools are typically responsible for booking and paying for students’ transportation to campus. For virtual activities, schools typically provide all materials, however, we can mail materials out if given sufficient time.

If the cost of activity materials or student transportation is a barrier to accessing our programs, please contact us to see if support can be provided.

In-Person Activities & Workshops

Our volunteers can travel to your school or location to facilitate in-person activities and workshops. Please note that the availability of in-person programming at your facility is dependent on the availability of our volunteers to travel there. We make every effort to ensure we reach schools throughout the GTA.

We also offer in-person workshops on campus - typically for high school students. Research shows that having access to campus grounds can motivate youth and help them see themselves in a post-secondary institution. While we may partner with TMU Recruitment (to offer a campus tour while you’re here), it is important to note that SciXchange does not operate as a recruitment tool for the Faculty of Science.

Virtual Activities

Throughout the pandemic, our volunteers and staff became adept at facilitating our activities through video live streaming. We are happy to continue to offer virtual activities to schools. Please note that our preferred platform for video calls is through Zoom. We are happy to work with teachers to use a different platform, however more time for trouble shooting during the activity should be made.
