For a bright journalism student from a diverse background who displays determination and tenacity in their reporting.

Yusra Javed (1998-2019) was a Toronto Met School of Journalism student and an aspiring young journalist who left an indelible mark in the lives of all who knew her after. Determined and fiercely passionate, Javed was finishing up her Bachelor's degree at the School of Journalism while working at the Ontario Legislative Press Gallery as an intern where she impressed her colleagues with not only her drive and political reporting chops but also her compassion and kindness towards others. To honour her memory, the Ontario Legislative Press Gallery is establishing an award for a bright journalism student from a diverse background who displays determination and tenacity in their reporting the way Yusra did. The Ontario Legislative Press Gallery is comprised of journalists with the special responsibility of covering developments at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
