John A. Honderich Gold Medal in Journalism
About the award
To the outstanding student in the graduating class.
The Gold Medal was established in honour of the work of John A. Honderich, journalist and editor, and publisher of the Toronto Star from 1994-2004. John studied at the University of Toronto and London School of Economics, and began his newspaper career in 1973 as an office boy and night reporter at the Ottawa Citizen. He joined the Star in 1976, working as a reporter, bureau chief in Ottawa and Washington, deputy city editor, business editor and editorial page editor before taking over as publisher. He is now a special adviser on cities to the Premier of Ontario.
