2024 Spring/Summer OSAP at TMU

Note: Spring/Summer OSAP funding cannot be released until the start of your classes. If you enrol in Chang School courses, note that course fees are due upon enrolment. You are responsible for any late fees.

Spring/Summer OSAP Application Eligibility

If you are taking one or two courses during the spring and/or summer terms (or one course if you have a permanent disability or a persistent/prolonged disability), you can apply for OSAP by submitting a part-time application through the OSAP website (external link, opens in new window) .

Please finalize your course enrolment before submitting your part-time OSAP application. Submitting your application before you are enrolled in all of your classes will delay processing your application.

Applications are processed within 3-6 weeks from date of submission. You can track our SFA document processing times on our Student Financial Assistance homepage. For application status updates, be sure to regularly check your OSAP Portal Message Centre. Students are responsible for checking the status of their application.

If you have not filed your taxes and did not earn any income, please review the details below:

Typically, the part-time OSAP application is able to electronically verify your previous taxation year’s Canadian income through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). However, if your Canadian income cannot be electronically verified, you will be asked to provide documentation to satisfy your proof of income.

A common reason that an applicant’s Canadian income may not be electronically verified is that the applicant did not file taxes for the previous taxation year, due to not earning any income during that time.

Students in this situation can find instructions for next steps by visiting Part-Time OSAP Zero Income Attestation.

What happens if I already received part-time OSAP funding for spring/summer, and then increase to a full-time course load in the same semester?

Part-time OSAP and full-time OSAP are two separate programs, with separate policies and procedures. Students are encouraged to finalize their course enrolment before applying for OSAP.

If you increase your course load to full-time OSAP status after part-time OSAP funding has already been released within the same semester,  you may be considered for additional funding under the full-time OSAP program. However, this is not guaranteed.

Should you pursue this option, you are required to adhere to all published deadline dates on this webpage. Since you are moving from one OSAP program to another, there is a possibility that you may not be assessed for additional OSAP funding (for example, you maxed out on funding, or the deadline date for additional funding has passed). Note that if additional funding is available, there will be significant delays in processing your OSAP file due to moving from one OSAP program to another.

Students in this situation must self-identify by phone via the ServiceHub. An SFA advisor will connect with you to discuss your options so you can make an informed decision.

If you are taking at least three courses during the spring and/or summer terms (or two courses if you have a permanent disability or a persistent/prolonged disability), and/or you are on an OSAP-eligible co-op work term, fill out the  (google form) 2024 Full-Time Spring/Summer OSAP Extension Form (external link, opens in new window) . Intensive courses cannot be included in the minimum calculation of two or three courses. Refer to the bottom of the page for application deadlines.

Please finalize your course enrolment before submitting the full-time extension form. Submitting an extension form before being enrolled in all your classes will delay the processing of your application.

Once you successfully submit your extension form, you will receive a confirmation receipt to your @torontomu.ca email address. If you do not receive a confirmation receipt, then your extension was not submitted. Be sure to check your spam folder as well.

Extension forms are processed within 3-6 weeks from the date of submission. Once processed, our SFA team will add the spring/summer study period to your existing full-time OSAP application. For application status updates, be sure to regularly check your OSAP Portal Message Centre. Students are responsible for checking the status of their application.

 Note: You do not need to submit a brand new application on the OSAP website. Please only submit a 2024 Spring/Summer OSAP Extension Form.

To access the extension form, you must be logged in to your @torontomu.ca email account only. If you have multiple Gmail accounts, be sure you are only logged out of all personal accounts, and only logged into your institution account.

For OSAP purposes, an intensive course typically runs for two weeks or less. Intensive courses cannot be considered while calculating OSAP course loads. If you are only taking intensive courses, you will not be eligible for OSAP. However, if you are taking regular courses and intensive courses concurrently, we can add the cost of your intensive course to your assessment calculation.

For example: If you are registered in one regular course and two intensive courses, you will need to apply for part-time OSAP.  Only the regular course counts towards determining your OSAP course load. We will add the cost of your two intensive courses to your OSAP calculation so that you can be assessed funding for the costs of the intensive courses. If you are only taking intensive courses, you will not be eligible for OSAP.

This screenshot is an example of an intensive course. The Chang School course is identified as an intensive course (in the top right corner), and indicates class times for a duration of five days. This screenshot serves as an example only - students can find other intensive courses on the Chang School website.

If you are taking at least three courses during the spring and/or summer terms (or two courses if you have a permanent disability or a persistent/prolonged disability), and/or you are on an OSAP-eligible co-op work term, but did not apply for full-time OSAP for the fall 2023 and/or winter 2024 terms, please submit a new full-time OSAP application through the OSAP website (external link, opens in new window) .

Please finalize your course enrolment before submitting your full-time OSAP application. Submitting an application before you are enrolled in all your classes will delay processing your application. Applications are processed within 3-6 weeks from the date of submission. You can track our SFA document processing times on our Student Financial Assistance homepage. For application status updates, be sure to regularly check your OSAP Portal Message Centre. Students are responsible for checking the status of their application.

Note: You must be enrolled in a full-time course load for 12 weeks to qualify for full-time OSAP as a new applicant. For example, your courses must run from approximately early May to late July or August.

TMU is proud to have a collaborative nursing program with George Brown and Centennial College. If you are a first or second year student in this program and are interested in spring/summer OSAP, your OSAP application type is based on your situation.

Apply for full-time spring/summer OSAP through your college if:

  • You are taking a combination of spring/summer courses at TMU and your home institution, and already have an active full-time OSAP application for the current academic year through your home institution
  • You are enrolled in less than 12 weeks of spring/summer study at TMU and have an active full-time OSAP application for the current academic year through your home institution. If your study period is less than 12 weeks, regardless of taking a course at TMU only or a combination of courses, we cannot process a brand new full-time OSAP application that is less than 12 weeks in length.

Apply for full-time spring/summer OSAP through TMU if:

  • You are in 12 or more weeks of spring/summer study and not taking any courses through your home institution.
  • You are in 12 or more weeks of spring/summer study, as well as courses at your home institution, but do not have an active full-time OSAP application for the current academic year at your home institution.

Apply for part-time spring/summer OSAP (depending on your course enrolment):

  • If you are in one or two courses (or one course for students with a permanent disability or persistent/prolonged disability), you are considered part-time for OSAP purposes
  • Apply at your college: If you are enrolled part-time at your college only
  • Apply at TMU: If you are enrolled part-time at TMU only

If you are taking a combination of spring/summer courses at both George Brown or Centennial and TMU, you can still be considered for OSAP funding for your TMU courses. To be considered for funding, please provide us with your college’s Studies at Another Institution Form through the ServiceHub.

You can access a complete list of our OSAP eligible certificates on Information by Student Group.

 Note: Chang School course fees are due upon enrolment. If you register for spring/summer Chang School courses, you are responsible for any fees. OSAP funding can only be released at the start of your classes.

Effective spring/summer 2023, Law students in their third year of studies are able to participate in spring/summer placements.

To qualify for spring/summer OSAP, the professional placements must be 12 weeks in length to qualify for full-time OSAP.

To be considered for spring/summer 2024 OSAP, submit a new full-time OSAP application through the OSAP website (external link, opens in new window) . Do not complete a full-time spring/summer extension form. This form is not available for Law students.

Please finalize your course enrolment before submitting your full-time OSAP application.

If you are not sufficiently enrolled, this will delay your application from processing. Applications are processed within 3-6 weeks from date of submission. You can track our SFA document processing times on our Student Financial Assistance homepage. For application status updates, be sure to regularly check your OSAP Portal Message Centre.
