The Government of Canada provides special saving incentives that are only available with a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP). One of these programs is the Canada Learning Bond (CLB).
Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) provides an additional incentive of up to $2,000 to help Canadian families pay for post-secondary education. This includes apprenticeship programs, CEGEPs, trade schools, colleges, and universities. The CLB is deposited directly into the beneficiary’s RESP. If the beneficiary does not pursue post-secondary education, the CLB is returned to the government. Personal contributions to a RESP are not required to receive the CLB.
