For Preceptors
To become a midwifery preceptor affiliated with the Toronto Metropolitan University Midwifery Education Program (MEP), you are required to:
- Be a general registrant of the College of Midwives of Ontario (CMO) who has completed your new registrant year
- Have no conditions on your registration
- Have hospital privileges with no conditions or restrictions
- Submit the Midwifery Preceptor Application Form (external link)
- Arrange for the Midwifery Preceptor Reference Form (external link) to be submitted from two referees who are suitable to recommend you as a clinical teacher
- Complete the New Preceptor Education Program online module and quiz (link to come)
- Attend the annual New Preceptor Workshop
- Receive a Midwifery Preceptor Certificate that confirms you have completed the preceptor requirements
As a preceptor you are expected to:
- Follow MEP clinical placement policies and guidelines
- Provide placements that meet (PDF file) MEP birth number requirements
- Provide learning opportunities and clinical teaching appropriate to clinical course objectives
- Regularly participate in professional development opportunities related to clinical teaching
- Notify the MEP of any changes to your personal or contact information, your midwifery practice site, or your CMO registration or hospital privilege status
