‘A land of opportunities’
Mahnoor Shahid
Master of Public Policy and Administration alumna and health-care policy team lead
After completing her BASc in Public Health at TMU, Mahnoor Shahid returned for her Master of Public Policy and Administration to advance her health-care policy career. She now leads the Infection Prevention and Control unit of the Ontario Treasury Board Secretariat.
“TMU was an ideal space to come back to,” said Shahid. “I never felt out of place. I always felt part of the community.”
How did TMU Graduate Studies help prepare you to be career-ready?
I felt like it was a land of opportunities. It really helped me develop soft skills, as well as some important skills like resumé building and applications to internships. I learned and grew so much and it’s something that I've taken with me into my career.
How did faculty support you?
I developed great relationships with our faculty members, who were really good mentors and guides for my career and professional development.
They were always eager to help you and available to have a conversation, whether it was about my work experience or the jobs that I wanted to apply to.
What advice do you have for graduate students?
For those considering TMU for their grad studies I would highly recommend it. We have a positive, diverse and inclusive culture here. I always felt part of the community. It’s home.
