Jenny Liu and Dr. Maureen Reed developed the MSMR (Multi-System Resilience) app based on a groundbreaking model for measuring resilience capacity from her PhD research. The MSMR app has been positively received, and has led to international collaborations and commercial interest.
Why did you choose TMU?
I chose TMU because of its mandate of innovation with real social impact. I appreciate the emphasis on scholarly pursuits with real-world application of knowledge.
Although I did my undergrad at TMU, because of the dramatic changes happening it feels like a new university from year to year in the best way possible.
How have faculty supported your research?
Dr. Maureen Reed, along with Dr. Kristin Vickers and Dr. Josephine Wong, have been instrumental in guiding me along my path. They have shared their experiences and insights and provided unconditional support. It speaks to TMU’s supportive, interdisciplinary environment.
How is your TMU graduate education preparing you for your career?
My program gave me a toolbox of essential skills that I can use as a scholar and researcher. On a broader level, being a part of this amazing collaborative community inspires me to innovate and continue to make a difference.
What advice do you have for grad students?
TMU Graduate Studies really gives you the freedom to shape and pursue your own research experience, so don’t be afraid to pursue your own path! Take advantage of opportunities to innovate, create and share knowledge.
