Second-year Field Placement: Full-time Program

Course: CLD 262 Field Education II

Gain more practical experience and further develop your knowledge and skills by completing your second-year ECS placement in a family- or community-oriented program for children and families.

You will be directly involved in supporting families to promote the development and learning of their young children. Improve your ability to plan and implement programs for children, and build responsive and nurturing relationships with families of diverse ethno-racial, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Your placement setting options include:

  • EarlyON Centres
  • Family resource programs
  • Kindergarten classrooms

Your second-year field education placement will take place during the fall or spring term.  

Note: the prerequisites for this course are  CLD 161 and CLD 212 and the corequisite is CLD 231.

Note that non-academic documentation can take several weeks to complete. It is important to begin the process early to ensure that all documents are submitted by the required due date. To participate in this placement course, you must obtain the following forms:

Vulnerable Sector Screening Form (VSS)

  • Processed by the police service in the municipality where you reside.
  • If you reside in the city of Toronto (Postal Code starts with M), contact than.le@torontomu.ca for the Toronto Police Service VSS Agency Code and submit your application online.
  • If you reside outside of Toronto, contact your local police service to determine the application process.
  • The application form must be processed within six months of the placement start date.

  • Completed by a health care provider in the Province of Ontario.
  • Must be processed within six months of the placement start date.

Certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.

  • Contact the Canadian Red Cross, St. John's Ambulance, Toronto Metropolitan University Sports and Recreation or a certifying agency of your choice.
  • First Aid Certificate must be valid on the first day of placement. Check your certification to determine the expiration date.

How to submit non-academic documentation

All non-academic documentation is submitted electronically to ecsfielded@torontomu.ca

When ALL non-academic documents are completed scan or take a clear photo of each document and send ONE EMAIL that includes the following:

  • images of all documents with the processing/expiration date clearly visible
  • your full name
  • your Toronto Metropolitan University student number

Due dates:

  • March 28, 2025 for Spring 2025 placements
  • August 8, 2025 for Fall 2025 placements
