First-year Field Placement: Full-time Program

Course: CLD 161 Field Education
Gain first-hand experience in the real world of early learning and child care employment by completing your first-year ECS placement in a setting for children up to age five.
You will better understand the practical aspects of play-based curriculum, promoting child development and ensuring a diverse and inclusive practice. Play a hands-on role in observing, planning and implementing activities for children while building responsive and nurturing relationships with children and their families.
The first-year field education placement take places during the winter or spring term.
Note: the prerequisite for this course is CLD 102 and the co-requisites are CLD 103 and CLD 212.
The following pieces of non academic documentation are required for all students completing a CLD 161 first year field placement in winter or spring.
1. Vulnerable Sector Screen/Vulnerable Sector Check
- Students must have a Canadian mailing address to apply for a Vulnerable Sector Screening form.
- Processed by the police service in the municipality where you reside.
- If you reside in the city of Toronto (Postal Code starts with M), contact than.le@torontomu.ca for the Toronto Police Service VSS Agency Code and submit your application online.
- If you reside outside of Toronto, contact your local police service to determine the application process.
- The application form must be processed within six months of the placement start date.
2. (PDF file) Immunization form
- Completed by a health care provider in the Province of Ontario.
- TB Skin Test must be processed within six months of your placement start date

3. Certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
- Contact the Canadian Red Cross, St. John's Ambulance, TMU Sports and Recreation or a certifying agency of your choice.
4. Ontario Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training in 4 Steps (external link)
- Complete the eLearning module and submit a copy of your Proof of Completion certificate.
How to submit non-academic documentation
All non-academic documentation is submitted electronically to ecsfielded@torontomu.ca
When ALL non-academic documents are completed scan or take a clear photo of each document and send ONE EMAIL that includes the following:
- images of all documents with the processing/expiration date clearly visible
- your full name
- your Toronto Metropolitan University student number
Non academic documentation due dates:
- November 29, 2024 (Winter 2025 Placements)
- March 28, 2025 (Spring 2025 Placements)
