Ego’s Epiphany
"I open my eyes to escape from my closed-eye reality."
Ego’s Epiphany is a 5 look collection exploring the unset definition of reality. Through the stages of a hallucinogenic trip gone wrong, these looks take the viewer on a quest to find ego death. Interweaving concepts of lost innocence, sublimity and perception, Ego’s Epiphany interprets how in the pursuit of answers, one is always left with more questions and reflects on how one's world can go from comfortable to grotesque and uncanny in unexpected ways.
This collection uses traditional and novel sewing, embroidery, draping, and tailoring methods, combining handcraft and technology with an experimental methodology.
Pushing the boundaries of common materials through intensive exploration, it investigates the intersection of high fashion and design technology while questioning reality and promoting curiosity, highlighting natural formations and sacred geometry.
Working in the Design + Technology Lab, the laser cutter was utilized throughout the year, experimenting with settings and methods to alter the material structure of textiles, particularly to create organza strips for a 3D mesh textile used throughout the collection as well as organically layered feathers.
From this, a method of creating faux fur trim material entirely from organza was developed. Additional fabrication techniques using the 3D printer were explored to create eye and button notions.
