Family Presentations

In keeping with the university's tradition, any faculty or staff member who has a direct family member graduating may request to congratulate them on stage. This has created very special memories for many families throughout the years.

Please be mindful of the changes below to the family presentation:

Please speak to your graduating family member about this opportunity prior to requesting a family presentation. Requests can be submitted by the faculty or staff member once convocation registration opens in late-May. When your request is submitted, it will be directed to the graduand to approve as part of their registration.

Only requests that have been formally approved by the graduand ahead of the ceremony will be announced as a family presentation on stage.

Family presentations are part of the Academic Procession and individuals are required to remain for the duration of the ceremony.

Faculty and staff are still permitted to sign-up for the Academic Procession in place of a family presentation.

Please see below regarding Marshalling and Regalia.

Participants of family presentations join the Academic Procession on the third floor (MAC 3319) of the Mattamy Athletic Centre  (opens in new window) . Please arrive 45 minutes before the start of the ceremony and check-in with event staff.

View the current convocation schedule to see a breakdown of Faculties and programs.

Academic regalia is required for all family presentation participants.

If you do not have your own regalia, black academic gowns will be supplied by the university. On the day of your ceremony, these gowns will be available on the third floor (MAC 3319) of the Mattamy Athletic Centre  (opens in new window) .  Give yourself enough time to sign-out your gown and be in the marshalling area in time.

There will be coat racks provided, however, this is in an area that cannot be secured, so please leave all valuables in your office.

Academic hoods are the responsibility of the individual faculty and staff members to obtain, based on the institution where they earned their degree. Wearing a hood is not required but does add to the “splendour” of the family presentation.
