In celebration of the Faculty of Science's 10th anniversary, we're excited to announce the release of our commemorative publication highlighting the outstanding developments, people, and success stories from the last ten years that make us proud to be TMU's Faculty of Science. In commemoration of this milestone, Dean David Cramb sat down with founding Dean Imogen Coe for an intimate conversation reflecting on the past, present and future of the Faculty of Science.

Lecture by Canada International Gairdner Award Laureate Dr. Pieter Cullis

On October 28th, we hosted 2022 Canada Gairdner International Award Laureate Dr. Pieter Cullis as part of the Gairdner National Program lecture series. Attendees listened to an insightful lecture on Science and Serendipity: Lipid Nanoparticles That Enable COVID-19 mRNA Vaccines and had the opportunity to ask Dr. Cullis Q&As about his research.
Alumni Month | Science Improv - The New Playground for Creative Genius

On October 20th, Faculty of Science alumni participated in a night of comedy and improv performed by Bad Dog Theatre. A night of good laughs, Bad Dog demonstrated how creativity and collaboration through improv can generate breakthroughs in science, and all areas of our lives.

Decade of Discovery Community Concert

On October 6th, we hosted a free outdoor concert celebrating the Faculty of Science’s 10th anniversary! Students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members enjoyed an evening of good music and popcorn featuring live performances from Dimestore Playboys.
Faculty of Science Mentorship Program Launch

On October 6th, the Faculty of Science Mentorship Program hosted a networking breakfast to welcome both new and returning mentors and mentees to the program. Mentors and mentees participated in an intimate panel discussion about their career journeys.
Soapbox Science

On September 25th, SciXchange hosted Toronto's sixth Soapbox Science event. The annual international public outreach event celebrates women and non-binary researchers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The Toronto organizers returned to an in-person event this September, after holding Soapbox Science online for the past two years.
This year's event took place at the incredible outdoor area of Evergreen Brickworks (external link) as part of Toronto's Word on the Street (external link) festival.
Science Orientation

Science Orientation took place the week before classes began and gave incoming students the chance to connect with other first year students, get familiar with the academics of their program, and get to know the campus. New students participated in a Harry Potter themed week of fun games and bonding with their house!
Science at the Interface

SATI 2022 is the 11th annual research symposium for TMU's Department of Chemistry & Biology. This event was a highlight of the year where guests learned about and celebrated the wonderful work conducted in the department. This year we were thrilled to return to an in-person format, and convened in the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre on August 18, with talks that took place in lecture halls within and the poster presentation held in the beautiful Sears Atrium on the third floor.

On June 8th, we hosted a barbecue in appreciation of Faculty of Science faculty & staff. Faculty & staff members enjoyed an afternoon of good food, celebrating achievements, and catching up with colleagues.
Science Rendezvous returns to campus!

On May 7th, the community participated in an annual street festival celebrating science. Community members met faculty scientists, interacted with discoveries that are changing our world, and even had the chance to fire a vacuum canon and sink our very own Dean of Science in the Physics Dunk Tank.
