Hybrid rocket propulsion systems show a great deal of promise for a range of missions owing to their combination of relative low cost, controllability in flight, and their ease and safety of manufacturing, storage and operation. To build experience with this technology, evaluate a range of propellant combinations and refine internal ballistics models, the HRED is being developed. This project will provide Ryerson with a versatile lab-scale test engine and horizontal test stand outfitted with a range of sensors, an oxidizer handling and feed system, and high-speed control & data acquisition equipment
