Veiling Veronicas

Digitally knit works by Tanya White

A series of 4 neon green printed women, each wearing different garments from the Veiling Veronicas series. Each neon printed women is mounted to a white wall as if they're floating.

Project Description

A nod to Saint Veronica who wiped the sweat from Christ’s face causing the imprint known as the “Veil of Veronica’, the figures are also inspired by the polychrome sculptures that celebrate religious ceremonies especially ‘the Lady of Sorrows’.

The D+T LAB Ricoh printed and laser cut the Veronicas on acrylic. The pieces are knitted with smoke-coloured monofilament and yellow embroidery yarns on the Stoll Industrial knitting machine. Building on the sainted or angelic, the knit structures and silhouettes aim to capture religious iconography's sublime and ethereal affect. The fluorescent yellow plays with the strange, toxic, and ephemeral quality of sainted bodies and the frailty of iconic fashion figures.
