Classroom Improvements

As part of its mandate, the Teaching and Learning Space Working Group (TLSWG) sets priorities for the maintenance and renovation of existing learning spaces.

Following an extensive auditing process, the TLSWG has worked since 2020 to provide lighting improvements, classroom rennovations and refreshment, and has upgraded and replaced furniture in classrooms across campus.

Classroom Refresh

The TLSWG works together with Facilties Management and Development to identify general use classrooms that are most in need of renovation.

As of Fall 2022, more than 20 classrooms have been refreshed.

Lighting Improvements

Using the data generated by our audit of all general use classrooms, Facilities set about to improve the lighting in classrooms identified as being below minimum standards.

Lighting has been updated in more than 169 classrooms to ensure no broken lighting components, appropriate brightness, and consistent lighting temperature.

Furniture Audit

In response to our audit of all general use classrooms, which found that classrooms contained broken or damaged furniture, Facilities conducted an inventory of furniture in classrooms in the five most heavily used buildings.

To date, all broken or mismatched furniture has been removed from VIC and KH and is in the process of being replaced.

The next phase of the Furniture Audit includes reconciling discrepancies in seating capacity and developing and implementin standards for accessible furniture in all classrooms.
