Advanced Standing Admission - Third Year Entry: Equivalent to two years of full-time study following university or community college.
Admission to the Advanced Standing Admission - Third Year Entry option is to third year of the program, in the Fall term only, and is available only on a part-time study basis. The number of students admitted is limited by space availability.
Consideration for admission to Advanced Standing (in third year) will be given to students who have the following qualifications; (A) and (C) or (B) and (C):
(A) Holders of a baccalaureate degree in the humanities or social sciences from a Canadian university (or equivalent), who have at least (2) years accumulated, paid, full-time equivalent, relevant work experience in the social services field.
or
(B) Holders of a Social Service Worker or Human Services Counselor Diploma from a public Canadian college (or equivalent), who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 ('B') or higher, plus at least two (2) years accumulated, paid, full-time equivalent, relevant work experience in the social services field.
and
(C) Completion of a prerequisite course, CVSW15A/B Foundations of Social Work II with at least a 'B' level grade.
Employment prerequisites must be completed prior to taking CVSW15A/B. Admission to CVSW15A/B is limited by space availability. Applicants will be pre-selected to take this course by Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment in conjunction with the School of Social Work. Applicants will be selected based on post-secondary academic performance and employment in the social services field.
Notes:
- Successful college diploma applicants are required to complete four (4) courses, in addition to the third and fourth year curriculum, as part of their degree requirements, as follows: Three (3) liberal studies courses, one (1) lower level and two (2) upper level, and SWP 331 Social Work Theories of Practice.
- Successful college diploma applicants will receive transfer credit for SWP 36A/B Field Practicum at the time of admission.
- CVSW15A/B course is only offered one time per year, running May - June.
- Given the strong competition applicants will normally be required to present academic averages significantly higher than the minimum.
- Baccalaureate degree holders approved to this program are not eligible to receive further transfer or challenge credits.
- College diploma applicants with less than two (2) years accumulated, paid, full-time equivalent, relevant work experience in the social services field will not be considered and should apply to the full-time Advanced Standing - Second Year Entry option.
- Baccalaureate applicants with less than two (2) years accumulated, paid, full-time equivalent, relevant work experience in the social services field will not be considered and should apply to the full-time four-year program.

In order to receive equal consideration for the Advanced Standing Admission - Third Year Entry option, applications with complete documentation must be received by Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment no later than February 1st. Applications received after this date will be considered subject to space availability.

- Post-secondary transcripts including promotions/graduation status;
- A resume of employment in the social services field;
- Two letters of reference (either two professional references or one professional and one academic reference), submitted in sealed envelopes with the referee's signature on the seal of the envelope.
- Applicants must also submit a letter(s) confirming the terms and conditions of their employment in the social services field, for a minimum of two years.
- Applicants must submit a personal statement. This statement should indicate why the applicant is choosing Social Work. Why Ryerson? Why now?
