Admission Information - Full-Time Program
Administered by the School of Social Work 

Degree: Four years of full-time study following Grade 12 U/M graduation. 

The Social Work BSW degree program is accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work.  

Admission: O.S.S.D. with six Grade 12 U/M courses including Grade 12 U English. 

Notes
  1. ENG4U/EAE4U is the preferred English.
  2. A grade of 70 percent or higher will be required in Grade 12 U English.
  3. Subject to competition, candidates may be required to present averages/grades above the minimum.

Advanced Standing Admission - Second Year Entry: Three years of study following community college. 

Admission to the Advanced Standing Admission – Second Year Entry option is available in the Fall term only, and is available only on a full-time study basis. The number of students admitted is limited by space availability. 
  
Consideration for admission to Advanced Standing (in second year) will be given to students who have the following qualifications: 

Social Service Worker or Human Services Counsellor Diploma from a public Canadian college (or equivalent), with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 ('B') or higher, and less than two (2) years accumulated, paid, full-time equivalent, relevant work experience in the social services field.  

Notes:
  1. Successful applicants are required to complete two (2) additional courses from first year as part of their degree requirements, as follows:  One (1) lower level liberal studies course, and SWP 331 Social Work Theories of Practice.  
  2. Successful applicants will receive transfer credit for SWP 36A/B Field Practicum at the time of admission. 
  3. Given the strong competition applicants will normally be required to present academic averages significantly higher than the minimum.
  4. Holders of college diplomas with two years or more accumulated paid, full-time equivalent, relevant work experience in the social services field, must apply to the Advanced Standing Admission – Third Year Entry Option, which is offered on a part-time basis.  Please see the Admission Information - Part-Time Program section for details.

Application Procedures 

In order to receive equal consideration for the Advanced Standing Admission – Second Year Entry option, applications with complete documentation must be received by Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment no later than March 1st. Applications received after this date will be considered subject to space availability.

  1. Post-secondary transcripts including promotions/graduation status;
  2. A summary of paid, full-time equivalent, relevant work experience in the social services field, in order to confirm that eligibility criteria have been met (less than two years accumulated paid, full-time equivalent, relevant work experience in the social services field).
