HOME Minors Curatorial Studies Minor

Curatorial Studies Minor

Lectures, small group seminars and interaction with curators will provide students in the Curatorial Studies Minor with an overview of curatorial history and practices. Courses include contemporary art history, and a number of specific courses concerned with the concepts and practices of art gallery and curation. The Minor is intended for students who wish to strengthen their understanding of display culture and curatorial practices. Required courses focus on visual communication, technological innovations and the productive economy within which image culture is made.

Students should consult with the School of Image Arts Academic Coordinator before commencing courses toward the minor.

To receive the Minor, a student must complete six (6) courses from the following curriculum:

Required courses (2):

MPC 203 Art in the Modern World
NPF 571 Introduction to Museum and Gallery Studies

Plus four (4) of the following:

FPN 633 After Images: Topics in Contemporary Art
HIS 510 Museology and Public History
HIS 610 Curating the Past
MPC 103 Art and the Classical Tradition
NPF 553 Modern Movements in the Arts I
NPF 554 Modern Movements in the Arts II
NPF 559 Advanced Topics in Curatorial Practices
NPF 567 Exhibition Practices in Contemporary Art
NPF 572 Curatorial Practices in Toronto
NPF 606 Contemporary Art Theory
