Summary

Apart from references in modern editions of the Lazarillo de Tormes (1554) and a few studies of varying depth and scope, it is not until recent years that the Lazarillo castigado (1573) has received some critical attention. Our edition, Lazarillo de Tormes castigado (1573) His Fortunes and Misfortunes as Told by Himself and Others: A Graphic Novel will therefore contribute to fill a significant lacuna in the editorial and reception history of Lazarillo de Tormes. We believe that Lazarillo’s graphic adaptation will offer the modern reader a more complete experience of the adventures and misadventures of the ultimate picaresque antihero and the history of the book that set a precedent in literary history. This article presents the on going project and the first chapter of graphic novel.
