Congratulations on accepting your offer of admission!

We look forward to welcoming you to The Creative School's creative ecosystem.

Make sure to read your Offer of Admission letter carefully, as it includes important information and action items required to complete your admission process. 

You can view your Offer of Admission letter by logging in to my.torontomu.ca and going to the communications tab.

Step 1

After accepting your offer of admission online, the next step would be to pay your Tuition Deposit before the deadline stated in your Offer of Admission letter. 

Step 2

Next, you must clear any admission conditions listed in your Offer letter.
For example: providing official transcripts to the Graduate Admissions office.

Step 3

Check your email for more information sent by your program, including Orientation details.

To use Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) online tools, you must first activate your online identity by completing a series of web forms. During activation, you will pick your password and your my.torontomu user name (i.e., johndoe, john.doe, etc.). You will not get any email confirming your account activation.

Once activated, your TMU online identity gives you access to:

• TMU email
• the Central Computer Labs, including the Library and Kerr Hall West KHW-71
  
• the my.torontomu.ca portal
  
• D2L Brightspace learning system
  
• MyServiceHub (via https://my.torontomu.ca)
  
• TMU wireless
  
• website accounts

If you are a returning applicant or student, you do not need to activate your identity, as you have already done it. If you have any problems with activation, ask for help at the Kerr Hall West KHW-71 Help Desk.

Two-Factor Authentication

All new students must set up two-factor authentication to access TMU services. This will require students to have either a mobile phone running Google Authenticator or a Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) key. U2F keys are available for purchase online or in some stores.

Email will be the main method of communication while you are at TMU.

Your TMU email address will be your username@torontomu.ca, where username is your my.torontomu username, for example, john.doe@torontomu.ca. Your TMU email account stays active during any term in which you enrol as a degree student. 

Before your first term (September)

From now until registration in September, the program will use the email address that you provided in your application for admission to communicate with you. If you change your email, please send the new address to your Graduate Program Administrator.

Starting September

TMU students are required to activate a TMU email account. This should be done no later than the end of the first week of classes. Starting September, ONLY your TMU email account will be used for correspondence from the University.

Signing in to Gmail

• Go to my.torontomu.ca in any web browser.
• Click the "Log in to my.torontomu" button. You will be prompted by TMU's Central Authentication Service (CAS) to log in with your TMU credentials.
• Select the Apps tab and select the Gmail application.

The OneCard is your TMU student ID card. It serves a variety of functions including providing access to library facilities, the Toronto Met Athletic Centre, and facilities in the RCC, and IMA buildings.

You can also load money onto the OneCard for use in vending machines, campus photocopiers, etc.

All new TMU students must apply online for their OneCard. 

The my.torontomu.ca portal connects you to systems, including D2L Brightspace, MyServiceHub and Google Apps at Toronto Metropolitan University. You can change your password, view your account information, change your challenge phrase and manage your resources by using the Self Service module.

MyServiceHub

MyServiceHub is the online student information system which allows students to look up their course registration, academic record, final grades, fees account, apply to graduate, etc. The MyServiceHub link can be found at my.torontomu.ca.

To confirm your course registration, please see MyServiceHub, not the course information posted on D2L Brightspace.

The course enrollment period begins in early August.

Your program will send you more information about course enrollment during the summer, including required course information and the tentative schedule.

The program office will enroll you in your required courses, and send you a course selection form to select elective courses for the term (if required).

In the meantime, you can find course information and course descriptions on your program website and also in the Graduate studies calendar.

Tuition and fees are determined by the program and academic level you are pursuing your graduate studies in. 

There are a number of scholarships and awards available to graduate students on a competitive basis.

The website is updated in the Summer prior to the start of the new academic year. 

We use Brightspace by D2L to provide online courses, supplemental course materials, workspaces for research, professional development courses and much more.

Brightspace is TMU's official Learning Management System (LMS). It includes a collection of tools that facilitate the online delivery of learning materials, quizzes and assignments, communications and grading.

Note: not all courses will use D2L Brightspace. It is always a good idea to check with your instructor if your course will use D2L Brightspace. 

The Yeates School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies offers an extensive program of professional skill development for graduate students, free of charge.

With an expansive selection of program partners and program offerings, the Future Smart program will complement your grad degree and help you transition to the career you want!

Zoom

Zoom is an online meeting tool recommended for teaching-related web conferencing, especially if your classes comprise more than 100 people. 

• Features: screen sharing, breakout rooms, annotations, chat, record meetings, and more.
• Room capacity: 300 people per room.
• Delivery method: Zoom desktop app (preferred) or Chrome web client (limited features).
• Meeting length: Up to 4-hour meetings.

Your instructor may require you to log in and authenticate with your TMU credentials to join the meeting room. Doing so requires a TMU Zoom account. Click on "Sign In" on the torontomu.zoom.us (external link)  portal to create a TMU Zoom account, and then sign in to the Zoom desktop or mobile application using the Single Sign On (SSO) option. 

G Suite & Google Apps

Everyone with an active account at TMU has access to Google Apps including Google Calendar and Google Drive.

Indigenous Student Services provides a culturally supportive environment to promote academic excellence and serves as a place to balance academic learning with traditional teachings and culture. 

Student Learning Support (SLS) is a group of services and programs aimed at helping students engage more effectively in their academic studies. We teach essential academic skills and study techniques that help students to more effectively express their intelligence, apply their knowledge and communicate their ideas.

Academic Integrity Office

The Academic Integrity Office (AIO) exists to ensure that  (PDF file) Policy 60: Academic Integrity is carried out in a fair and transparent way and to provide educational resources to the TMU community regarding academic integrity and misconduct. The AIO provides guidance and support to students and decision makers and ensures that all parties are aware of their rights and responsibilities. The AIO is neutral with respect to all cases and is neither an advocate for students or faculty nor a decision-maker in the process.

Teaching development is a primary resource area within the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. Through a collaborative approach, the Centre fosters a community dedicated to big thinking about curriculum, pedagogy and creative ways of developing inclusive teaching practices that enrich the student learning experience.

This is your resource for professional development in learning and teaching. They offer several ongoing supports for Teaching Assistants and Graduate Assistants.

Academic Accommodation Support helps students with disabilities at Toronto Met by creating and implementing individualized academic accommodation plans so students can more fully participate in their studies.  

The Centre for Student Development and Counselling (CSDC) offers free, confidential counselling services in a professional and friendly environment. Services are provided by a team of psychologists, social workers, psychotherapists and counselling interns.

Services, programs and resources are intended to assist students in solving immediate problems and in defining their personal, educational and career goals and acquiring the self-confidence and transferable skills necessary for professional success and individual growth. Why ergonomics matter

While our bodies are designed for movement, people are leading increasingly sedentary lifestyles in today's society. This has a severe negative impact on our health. Numerous studies on the adverse effects of a sedentary lifestyle have led physicians to refer to sitting as the new smoking. Prolonged sitting can lead to severe injuries called musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

Minimum Technology Requirements for Remote Learning

The following are the minimum technical requirements for students to access Toronto Metropolitan University’s online learning resources.

Individual programs or courses may have additional requirements. Please refer to your faculty, program, or course requirements for additional guidance.

The Medical Centre is a medical clinic that provides currently registered TMU students, staff and faculty with a wide range of medical services you would typically expect from your family physician. This includes the treatment of illnesses, such as colds or the flu, to routine examinations like annual physicals and internal examinations. You must book an appointment to see the doctor.

Student Care works collaboratively to support students with complex needs and students who are in distress. They also help address the challenging behaviour of students through formal processes. They use a holistic approach to support students and to reduce strain on impacted students, faculty and staff. Student Care seeks to partner in building a caring community at Toronto Met. Community members can contact the office at any point to discuss a student they are concerned about at studentcare@torontomu.ca.

Food 

Any TMU student facing any level of food insecurity (the inability to obtain food that meets your dietary needs) can use the TMSU Good Food Centre. Please register as a member first. Once registered, students get a certain amount of "points" to spend each week on food and supplies.

The Free Food Locator tool allows students to share details on the availability of free food on campus.

Housing

The Off-Campus Housing Office provides all TMU students with resources and information to facilitate their own housing search.

Toronto Metropolitan University's Design + Technology LAB is a technology-based workshop that supports creative research, curriculum, and entrepreneurship activities. Design + Technology LAB looks to disrupt and revolutionize the use of technology within the creative fields by leveraging digital fabrication, 3D printing, textile computing, AR/VR, and robotics.

Regardless of your program and year of study, Toronto Met has a diverse set of on-campus job opportunities available to you. The Catalyst serves to support potential, emerging, and ongoing projects coming from The Creative School researchers, creatives and their collaborators.

The Innovation Studio connects emerging and established makers, artists, technologists, entrepreneurs, researchers and academics, in a collaborative community devoted to creative exploration, cross-disciplinary innovation, and creative excellence.

The ThriveTMU initiative provides training and resources to help students develop skills that will serve them throughout their university career and beyond. 

TMU Graduate Students’ Union is a membership-driven union representing over 2500 full-time and part-time graduate students at Toronto Metropolitan University. We are dedicated to supporting your graduate journey by offering services such as health and dental coverage, funding for course unions and hosting events to build a community on campus.

Your health and dental plan offers comprehensive benefits, ranging from drug, paramedical, dental, vision, trip, and accidental. If you are registered for both the Fall and Winter sessions of the academic year, you are covered from September 1 to August 31. If you are registered to begin your studies in the Winter session of the academic year, you are covered from January 1 to August 31.

Consent Comes First (CCF) provides free, confidential, trauma-informed, healing-centred support to Toronto Metropolitan University community members affected by sexual violence and other forms of gender-based violence. It doesn't matter when, where or how the violence occurred, we are here for you. CCF creates opportunities for people affected by violence to cultivate safety, healing and leadership on their own terms. Gdoo-maawnjidimi Mompii Indigenous Student Services provides a culturally supportive environment to promote academic excellence and serves as a place to balance academic learning with traditional teachings and culture.
