Dr. Shengkun Xie
Overview
Shengkun Xie conducts high-quality research in Risk Modeling, Insurance Rate Making, Health Informatics and Analysis of Agent-based Simulation Models of Complex Systems. His teaching areas include, but are not limited to, Business Statistics, Business Mathematics, Data Analytics, Business Forecasting and Machine Learning with Applications. Dr. Xie has a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics (2010) and 2 MSc degrees, MSc in Financial Mathematics (2006) and MSc in Actuarial Science (2005). His BSc degree is in Computing and Information (1999). In 2010, Dr. Xie joined the Signal Analysis Research group at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Ryerson University as a MITACS Elevate Strategic Postdoctoral Fellow, and engaged in research on advanced health technology. His research expertise lies primarily in data analytics, statistical machine learning, statistical computing, predictive modelling, pattern recognition, and multivariate statistical methods. In addition to teaching at TRSM, he worked as a statistical consultant at Financial Services Commission of Ontario from 2012 to 2015.
Since 2015, he has been actively serving as a member of MSc Graduate Advisory Committees at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Guelph. Since 2010, he has been actively reviewing reputable journals and conference papers and MITACS Accelerate Internship Program Proposals. He has also been actively serving as a scientific program committee member for various conferences, including the International Conference on Data Science, Technology and Applications (DATA), presenting research work and chairing sessions at prestigious international conferences.
