James Desmoulin serves as an Advisor and a Senior Policy Analyst specializing in Indigenous Reconciliation.

James, a TMU alumnus, is dedicated to fostering connections between people and organizations, both internally and externally. He focuses on opportunities that align with shared values, strategies, and goals.

His diverse career began in the private sector, where he gained experience in banking and capital markets. He then transitioned to the public sector as a Senior Policy Analyst in finance, contributing to the Ipperwash Negotiation Team. His efforts led to a Deputy Minister Award for Collaboration and Partnerships following the $95 million Ipperwash Special Claim Settlement.

James also served as a Senior Manager of Indigenous Relations at Ontario Power Generation (OPG), where he worked in Renewable Generation and supported the implementation of OPG’s Reconciliation Action Plan. This plan committed to a $1 billion economic impact with Indigenous communities and businesses.

In his commitment to encouraging entrepreneurial initiatives, James collaborated with reBoot Canada on their wifi relay program, providing Indigenous youth with a pathway into a technology career. He also served as a mentor for the Building Young Entrepreneurs program, focusing on Green Jobs of the Future, under The United Nations Association in Canada.

James is passionate about volunteer work and travel. He was a delegate on a two-week mission to support relationships with Mayan Campesinos in the Guatemala Highlands, where he met with Guatemalan Senators and the attaché of the Canadian Embassy. He is a board member of the Group of Seven Lake Superior Trail Association. In 2019, he participated in the International Year of Indigenous Languages through UNESCO, attending the Languages Technology for All conference in Paris, France.

James holds an executive education from INSEAD – Institut Europeen d’Administration des Affaires in digital disruption and an MBA from Dalhousie University. He is a lifelong learner and experienced leader in the private, industry, and public sectors, with skills in finance and strategic development. He is committed to supporting and developing entrepreneurship initiatives.

James, who self-identifies as Ojibway - Algonquin, is a proud member of the Biitigong Nishnaabeg community situated on the northern shore of Lake Superior. When he’s not working, James cherishes his time with his partner, Lisa, and nurtures his passion for sailing.
