Searching for a Job
It can be challenging to search for a job. Remember:
- use diverse job search sites that match your interests, such as:
- Ontario jobs for young people (external link, opens in new window) and Government of Canada jobs (external link, opens in new window)
- City of Toronto jobs (external link, opens in new window) and Toronto Youth Partnerships & Employment (external link, opens in new window)
- Charity Village (external link, opens in new window) (for jobs in the social non-profit sector)
- Job sites specifically for people with disabilities (external link, opens in new window) (Carleton University)
- The Canadian Studies Network (external link)
- use the resources available to you (alumni can use the university's Career Services for up to five years after graduating):
- Career Compass provides tips on job search strategies, sample resumes, networking and leveraging social media
- book a one-on-one appointment with a Career Counsellor to get job search coaching, review your resume or do a mock job interview
- opt-in to the (google form) Career Resource Hub (external link, opens in new window) on D2L to access resume and cover letter templates, job search tips, interviewing advice and more
look at the job description, not just the job title
focus on the skills that you have acquired
network meaningfully – be present & learn!
maintain a professional social media presence
