Dr. Lila Pine
Dr. Lila Pine, Founding Director of The Creative School’s Saagajiwe Indigenous program. Lila’s vision was to develop Saagajiwe’s mission to facilitate the creation and dissemination of Indigenous thought, ways of knowing, and doing at Tsi T’karonta’s Metropolitan University. Saagajiwe has become part of the Indigenous academic and community life of Toronto. As the Principal Investigator of “Imag(in)ing Indigeneity in Language”, Dr. Pine’s visualization of sound seeks to develop ways of “seeing” language in order to identify distinct qualities in the speaking and learning of different languages. The Project employs Lila’s digital art creation as a scholarly research tool and engages Indigenous research methods to shift perceptions around the relationship of language to worldviews and ecological concerns. Lila's research is on the frontline of Saagajiwe's Indigenous language revitalization initiatives.
