Academic Plan 2025-2030

Academic Plan 2025-30

Update: 2025-30 Academic Plan Approved

We are pleased to announce that the 2025-30 Academic Plan was approved by Senate in early November 2024. The formal release is scheduled for January 2025.

Thank you to our core team, our advisory group, and the entire TMU community for your contributions. We look forward to sharing our vision for TMU’s future with you.

Stay tuned for more information on the release and implementation in winter 2025!

TMU is currently developing its next academic plan for 2025-30. Building on the successes and foundation of the 2020-25 Academic Plan, we will continue to deliver innovative, career-oriented education that disrupts the status quo on local, national and international stages.

Sustaining the momentum that has brought us this far, we must continue to take the kind of calculated risks that allow us to confront Canada’s most pressing challenges with our scholarly, research and creative (SRC) activities. Similarly, we will embrace new approaches to experiential education and continue providing exceptional student experiences. Throughout, we must remain true to our values and to how we engage with the world.

Principles to Guide the Academic Plan

In line with TMU’s mission, vision and values, the development of the academic plan will be guided by the following principles:

  • Prioritize students
  • Protect TMU’s core business
  • Be fair and transparent
  • Remain forward-looking
  • Conduct wide consultations within the community

Timeline of the development process

Whether you provided input through the feedback form, attended a consultation session or sent an email to the Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, we genuinely appreciate your participation and sharing your perspective.

By joining us throughout this process, you've provided input that will inform our strategic planning, ensuring that TMU’s Academic Plan articulates our community’s commitment to the university’s evolution.

Phase 1 of the process took place over the fall 2023 and winter 2024 semesters. It included initial consultations and conversations with stakeholders from across the university to assess the values and priorities of the current academic plan, evaluate what worked, and what to improve.

Phase 2 took place over the winter and spring 2024 semesters and included another series of consultations and town halls. This phase focused on identifying strategies, actions and resources that will be needed to implement the academic plan.

Phase 3 started in summer 2024 and involved sharing the draft plan with the community for feedback. The final academic plan was then presented to and approved by TMU’s Senate in November 2024. The plan will be released in January 2025 and implementation will begin in winter 2025.

These engagement activities were an opportunity to reflect on how to advance our academic plan to respond to the needs of our current and future environment.
