Academic Requirements and Course Planning

• If your CGPA falls below 1.00 (unless you are enrolled in your first semester), your academic standing will change to RTW.
• The Required to Withdraw page outlines the consequences of an RTW standing.
• If you receive a letter from the university indicating an RTW status, please schedule an appointment with your Program Administrator to discuss next steps. 

• Students who have been assigned an RTW standing and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 1.00 qualify for the Fresh Start program after a one-term suspension period.
• Fresh Start is a two-term Student Success program designed to assist students in resuming their undergraduate studies.
• To apply for the program, please complete and submit the  (PDF file) Fresh Start form to your Program Administrator. 

• The reinstatement process is only valid if your RTW standing is between 12 months (three terms) and 24 months (six terms) after assignment.
• To apply for reinstatement, submit the  (PDF file) Request for Reinstatement form to your Program Administrator.
• Reinstatement is based on past academic performance, space availability and competition. 

• If you fail a course or get a low grade, you have the option to repeat the course up to two times to improve your grade.
• If you fail a required course, you must re-take this course.
• If you want to replace the grade but do not want to repeat the same class, you can take a different course from the same course table and submit a GPA Adjustment form. 

• If you need to miss an assignment or exam, you can submit an Academic Consideration Request (ACR) through the Senate portal.
• You can access the ACR system through the Senate webpage, select “Online Academic Consideration Requests [ACR] for students” button to access the portal.
• An ACR can be submitted in advance of the work that you will be missing, or up to 3 business days after the work is due.
• Medical/Health-Related:
  - You will need to submit a stamped/signed  (PDF file) Health Certificate completed by your healthcare provider
• Religious, Aboriginal and/or Spiritual Observances:
   - You will need to submit this  (PDF file) form via the online ACR system within the first two weeks of the class or, for a final examination, within two weeks of the posting of the examination schedule.
• No Documentation Option: 
   - Students are permitted to submit a request (without documentation) once-per-semester.
   - This request must be submitted within 3 business days of the missed evaluation, may only cover an absence of 3 days or fewer.
   - This request does not and may not be used for a missed final examination or final assignment.

• A Minor is an opportunity for a student to explore a secondary area of undergraduate study. A student is required to complete a series of 6 courses to obtain a minor.

Internal Program Transfer

• To transfer to another program within the Faculty of Arts complete the program transfer application sent by your Program Administrator in November.
• Review the program eligibility criteria to ensure that you meet the program requirements.
• During the program transfer cycle, you can apply to transfer into one of the Double Major Programs offered with Politics and Governance:

           o   Criminology

           o   History

           o   Sociology

• The internal Program Transfer Process excludes transfers to Arts and Contemporary Studies, Undeclared Arts, International Economics and Finance and Public Administration and Governance.

• To transfer into a program outside of the Faculty of Arts, contact ServiceHub.
• ServiceHub coordinates transfers between faculties.
