NEW DIRECTIONS IN MONTGOMERY STUDIES

Since its first publication in 1908, L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables has enjoyed a remarkable success with a worldwide following of readers; it has remained continuously in print. The publication of The Selected Journals of L.M. Montgomery and the popularity of the adaptations for television has further contributed to the success of the novel and its sequels. At the Modern Literature and Culture Research Centre at Ryerson University, an important branch of our research is dedicated to forging new directions in theorizing the work of this important Canadian author and cultural icon.

New Collection of Essays

As L.M. Montgomery’s classic novel enters the second centennial of its publication, the University of Toronto Press is  publishing a collection of scholarly essays entitled Anne's World: A New Century of Anne of Green Gables.

Montgomery Studies: her fiction, her life writing, as well as derivatives of that work in the areas of television, photography, tourism, festival, national narrative, material culture, and commodity culture. Under the directorship of Benjamin Lefebvre, this website houses an extensive database of Montgomery's novels, life writing, and periodical pieces; an exhaustive bibliography of scholarly contributions and reviews; a filmography of over twenty film and television adaptations; a blog of updates and announcements; and a discussion group with a membership of forty scholars and researchers from around the world.
