Toronto Metropolitan University will be closed from the end of the day on December 20, 2024 to January 5, 2025 (inclusive). Program staff will respond to inquiries upon their return on January 6.
During the closure, applicants who have started their application process can continue uploading documents. New applicants can complete the first part of their application (external link, opens in new window) but will only receive an email with follow-up instructions to upload their documents until the university reopens in January.
Business Strategy Internship (BSI) program

The Ted Rogers MBA Program collaborates with Mitacs to provide students with experiential learning opportunities that centre on organizational innovation tactics and capabilities. Interns will work on their partner organization's innovation activities, helping them improve their products, processes or services.
Projects should be designed to address one or more business innovation components (i.e., marketing, operations, finance, intellectual property [IP], etc.) dependent on the needs of the organization.
$15,000 Mitacs BSI project (partner funding of $7,500; Mitacs matching funding of $7,500).
Student receives $15,000 stipend over four months.
Projects may be extended for up to six months; and must be stated in the application as applicable. Partners will pay an additional $3,000 per month, all of which will go to the student and will not be matched by Mitacs.
The program's principal objectives are to:
- Give students the chance to apply theories and concepts of business to actual decision-making.
- Support a company that requires more help to adjust its business practices in order to cope with the current economic climate.
- Create and maintain relationships and cooperative efforts between academic institutions and organizations.
- Enhance skills in communication, problem-solving, creativity, resilience, managing complexity, navigating change, business continuity planning, etc. and put education into practice.
- Increase students' access to businesses and the community through networking to provide them with new and expanded training and career opportunities.
Eligible organizations:
- Incorporated businesses in Canada, any size
- Not-for-profit organizations
- Municipalities
- Hospitals
Eligible students:
- Must be a registered active MBA, MScM, MHA(CC) or PhD graduate student at Ted Rogers School of Management
- Not currently be participating in another Mitacs funded program
- Be legally eligible to work in Canada
- For international students: Based on your study permit, you are authorized to work a minimum of 20hr/week during the course of your internship
Details and next steps:
- Submit your expression of interest in hiring a Master’s intern through the webform.
- Mitacs will review the interest, and if it meets the eligibility criteria, you will be invited to register and apply through the Mitacs Registration and Application Portal (RAP). (external link, opens in new window)
- Mitacs will review and approve the internship project and then invoice the partner organization. This approval confirms that the project will be funded.
- All parties (partner, student, TMU) will sign the Experiential Learning Agreement provided by the partner.
- You will receive an approval confirmation along with other details related to posting the Mitacs BSI Job Posting on the Graduate Job Board.
- Students will apply for your internship opportunity through the Graduate Job Board.
- You will receive interested candidates on a rolling basis and can schedule interviews as needed.
- The Graduate Program Office will facilitate the Faculty Supervisor signoff and institutional signoff.
- The project can then begin.
