Spanish Pathway
Once you have taken the Placement Test, you will know your language proficiency level. Your first course is the one listed for your score in the Score Guide. Students will then progress through the levels, as below.
It is not possible to go backwards on the pathway, to courses of lower difficulty.
Prerequisites vary, and are listed in the Undergraduate calendar.
INTRODUCTORY LEVEL
- SPN 101: Introductory Spanish I

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
- SPN 301: Intermediate Spanish I
- SPN 302: Spanish for the Tourism Industry
- SPN 303: Spanish and Fashion

- SPN 401: Intermediate Spanish II
- SPN 402: Spanish Conversation and Pronunciation*
* SPN 402 may be taken concurrently with SPN 401 or SPN 501. Students are not eligible for SPN 402 after completing SPN 501.
ADVANCED LEVEL

- SPN 506: Spanish Audiovisual Translation
- SPN 706: Spanish Graphic Novels
- SPN 601: Advanced Spanish II
*Students who complete SPN 501 with a B+ or higher may advance to any course in the Thematic Level that lists SPN 601 as a prerequisite. You may do this concurrently with SPN 601 or skip SPN 601 altogether.
