Chinese Pathway

Once you have taken the Placement Test, you will know your language proficiency level. Your first course is the one listed for your score in the Score Guide. Students will then progress through the levels, as below.

It is not possible to go backwards on the pathway, to courses of lower difficulty. 

Prerequisites vary, and are listed in the Undergraduate calendar. 

 

INTRODUCTORY LEVEL

  • CHN 101: Introductory Chinese I

  • CHN 201: Introductory Chinese II  

 

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

  • CHN 301: Intermediate Chinese I

  • CHN 402: Chinese Conversation and Pronunciation*

       *CHN 402 may be taken concurrently with CHN 501. Students are not eligible for CHN 402 after completing CHN 501.

 

ADVANCED LEVEL

  • CHN 501: Advanced Chinese I

  • CHN 601: Advanced Chinese II 

 

THEMATIC LEVEL

  • CHN 612: Contemporary Chinese Language and Culture
  • CHN 515: Introduction to Business Chinese
