Dr. Youcef Derbal
Overview
Dr. Derbal is an Associate Professor at the Ted Rogers School of Information Technology Management (TMU). He received a Doctorate in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Queen's University. Prior to joining Toronto Metropolitan University in 2003, Dr. Derbal worked in robotics & automation, telecommunications, and software & computing industries. He teaches a variety of topics in information technology, including computer-enabled problem solving, system analysis and design, computer programming, and database design. Dr. Derbal served on the TMU University Senate and chaired many school committees, including the Departmental Hiring Committee, the Departmental Evaluation Committee, and the School Curriculum Committee. During the academic years starting from 2009 to 2014, he led the development and deployment of the new Business Technology Management curriculum. He has also served as the ITM School Director during the 2013/2014 academic year. Dr. Derbal focuses his research on the study of complex adaptive systems. Among the objectives of his research is the development of system modeling and simulation frameworks capable of integrating multiple views of knowledge about the structure, processes, and mechanisms of complex adaptive systems. Dr. Derbal is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB).
The study of Complex Adaptive Systems (CAS), including complex diseases such as Cancer. The goal is to develop system modeling and simulation frameworks capable of integrating multiple views of knowledge about the structure, processes, and mechanisms of complex adaptive systems.
