I’m having a difficult time in my course(s) and I’m worried about my Academic Standing, what should I do?

It is your responsibility to get in touch with the BTM Student Advisors and speak with your professors immediately if you are experiencing academic/personal problems during the semester. Read more about academic standings here.

How are exams scheduled to be offered in Fall 2022?

It depends on the course. Some virtual or online classes at the Chang School will have in-person exams.  Your course outline should provide more information. In addition, your Professor may also provide more information about this in class.

I received my exam schedule and feel overwhelmed as my exams are occurring on the same day. What can I do?

Accommodations can be made if you have an exam conflict, exam overload, or religious observance.

If you have an exam conflict (two exams at the same time), exam overload (three final exams on the same day; three consecutive exam sessions e.g. afternoon, evening, and next morning, including Chang School exams), you should contact your Professors to make them aware and request an alternate agreeable date/time for an exam.

What is the difference between virtual and distance education courses? What does synchronous and asynchronous mean?

Programs will be offering a mix of synchronous and asynchronous virtual courses.

Synchronous learning allows you to learn with your classmates at scheduled hours, following the approach outlined in D2L, which will allow the Professor to present lectures and slides in real time.

Asynchronous learning allows you to learn the course content at any time during a specified period of time. Students can review the lecture and slides at their own pace. Please note, students must ensure they complete assigned deliverables by the due date(s).

Chang School of Continuing Education courses offered in “distance education” mode follow the asynchronous model. 

If you are not sure if your course(s) are following the synchronous or asynchronous model, please refer to the Course Outline to confirm.

Can I swap my virtual classes for in person classes?

Yes. You are responsible for swapping classes on your own using MyServiceHub. You should ensure space is available in the section you choose to swap into. 

If you need some help with how to enroll or to add/swap courses on MyServiceHub, you may review the YouTube videos on the TRSM Student Advising YouTube Channel (external link)  for assistance. You can also check the guidelines on the MyServiceHub Support page.

Can I enroll in a course that is full?

No. Enrollment into a section that is at capacity is not possible. If you want to get into a section of a course that is full, you must monitor MyServiceHub diligently throughout the open enrollment period to check for space. When a seat becomes available, you can enroll at that time.

I am attempting to enroll in a Chang School course but the search returns no results yet the course is offered. What should I do?

When searching for Chang School course offerings on MyServiceHub, ensure you place a ‘C’ before the course code. For example, CITM100. In addition, remove the ‘undergraduate’ selection from the ‘Course Career’ drop box before you hit the ‘Search’ button.

What are the required courses?

The TMU Undergraduate Calendar outlines exactly which courses you need to take each semester in order to graduate in the minimum time required to complete the degree.

How do I contact the Admissions Officer for the BTM program?

You may contact the BTM Admissions Office, via email. 

Is there a Co-op option?

Yes, you will have a chance to apply for co-operative education at the end of your first year. Co-op is an optional part of your academic program and extends your program by a year (5 years instead of 4).

In order to apply for co-op you must meet the following requirements:

• Minimum CGPA of 2.80 in first year
• Completion of all 10 first-year courses

Students are encouraged to review their Academic Advisement Report on MyServiceHub as it is a great tool for students to use to check the accuracy of their academic record and to ensure that course selections fulfill academic requirements.

How do I apply for transfer credits?

Once you receive an Offer of Admission, you may apply for transfer credits. For more information on how to apply for transfer credits, please visit the Transfer Credits website.

Can I pursue a double major in the BTM program? What is a minor and how do I select one?

No. Students can only pursue one major in this program. Students can however pair their degree with a minor(s) as prescribed in the undergraduate degree calendar.

A minor is an opportunity for a student to explore a secondary area of interest. Generally, a minor is made up of 6 courses concentrated in a specific area of undergraduate study.  Careful planning will allow you to use the courses in the minor as electives towards the undergraduate degree.  Compare the courses in the elective groups (Table I, Table II, Table A & Table B) against the courses required in the Minors listed in the Calendar.

How do I transfer to a different program at Toronto Metropolitan University?

Students are required to submit a formal Ryerson internal application to Undergraduate Admissions for consideration. Students should consult with the Service Hub to confirm internal admissions requirements for their program of interest prior to submitting their application. 

Can I use a Plan Change Form to switch programs?

No. A Plan Change form can only be used to switch between the regular program and the Co-op Option. Switching to a program outside of Business Technology Management requires an application via undergraduate admissions. An application fee will apply.

How do I request a Proof of Enrollment Letter or Status Letter?

Students may use the ‘Request a Letter’ function on their MyServiceHub account to request official letters from the Registrar’s Office

I have questions about OSAP/Bursaries. Who can I contact?

All financial inquiries are to be directed to the ServiceHub. 

Are there any scholarships available?

Yes, the School of Information Technology Management provides financial assistance and recognizes the academic achievement of full and part‐time undergraduate students enrolled in the Business Technology Management program. I am a first-year full-time degree student. How do I choose my classes?

As a first-year full-time degree student, you are not required to create your schedule. The Registrar’s Office automatically loads a timetable for you for both the Fall and Winter semesters only, and for REQUIRED courses only.  You may need to select your electives. If you want to make changes to your schedule, you may do so on your own using MyServiceHub. 

As a full-time degree student, I am taking 1-2 courses, does that make me a part-time degree student?

Your status as a full-time degree or part-time degree student is not dependent on your course load.  If you were admitted as full or part time, you remain as such regardless of course enrollment each semester. Changing from full time to part time or visa versa requires an application through admissions. Course load, however, may impact OSAP funding eligibility. Is there a maximum number of Chang School (Continuing Education/CE) courses I can take as a full-time degree student? As a full-time degree student can I take Chang School courses?

As a Business Technology Management undergraduate degree student, there is no limit on the number of Chang School courses that you may register (restrictions may apply if you are working towards a degree and Chang School certificate). Please be reminded, CE courses have separate fees, refund schedules and significant dates from undergraduate fees, refund schedules and significant dates.  Also, if not correctly registered, Chang School courses may not be included in the calculation of your CGPA.

As a full-time degree student, how long do I have to complete my degree requirements?

BTM Full-time Degree Regular students have 8 years and Co-op students have 10 years.

BTM Full-time Degree Two Year Degree Completion program students have 4 years.

I am a part-time degree student. Why did I not receive a timetable?

Part-time degree students are not automatically loaded with a timetable. As a student in the part-time degree program, you are expected to take your courses through the Chang school.  You are required to select and enroll for your courses.  While you do have access to classes in the day, access is during open enrollment only and is dependent on the availability of space. You may find the enrollment date on the significant dates calendar.

I am a part-time degree student and all sections of the course are full. How can I enroll?

Space in a day section is not guaranteed for part-time degree students. You may monitor the day class and see if a seat becomes available, or enroll in the course through the Chang School where your courses are guaranteed.  

As a part-time degree student, how long do I have to complete my degree requirements?

Part-Time Regular Degree students in the 4 year program have 14 years to complete all degree requirements.

Part-Time  2-Year Degree Completion Program Students have 6 years to complete all degree requirements. 

I am a student in the part-time degree program and I have considerable work experience in the field. Can I use my work experience to substitute courses in the BTM curriculum?

No. Work experience cannot be used to substitute for courses in the BTM curriculum. All students are required to complete the courses as outlined in the undergraduate degree calendar.  While work experience may be used to waive prerequisites to access a course, it cannot be used as a credit towards degree requirements.

As a part-time degree student, I am taking 5 courses, does that make me a full-time degree student?

Your status as a full-time degree or part-time degree student is not dependent on your course load.  If you were admitted as full or part time, you remain as such regardless of course enrollment each semester. Changing from full time to part time or visa versa requires an application through admissions. Course load, however, may impact OSAP funding eligibility.
