Alyssa Bistonath is a photographer and filmmaker based in Toronto. The daughter of Guyanese immigrants, she focuses on themes of memory and belonging by investigating intimacy, evidence, and the archive. She received a BFA in New Media and MFA in Documentary Media, both from Toronto Metropolitan University. Since then, her film “Why We Fight” has won best Canadian Short at the Regent Park Film Festival and her film “Portals” debuted at Nuit Blanche Toronto. Most recently, she was featured in the Art Gallery of Ontario’s “Art in the Spotlight” and Canadian Art online for her series, “Isolation Photographs”. The series is currently on display at the Art Gallery of Ontario in the exhibition "I AM HERE: Home Movies and Everyday Masterpieces".

Alyssa also has a commercial and editorial practice where she prioritizes community building, mentorship, inclusivity, and responsible imagemaking. She is currently a member of @womenphotograph (external link) www.alyssabistonath.com (external link)
