Requirements
Program admission requirements for MRP and Thesis options are the same except content of the statement of interest. Please see details in the Program-specific documents tab below. For details on three program options, please visit our Program Options page.

A four-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution in engineering, science, business, economics or a related discipline
Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00/4.33 (B or equivalent), in the last two years of study and demonstrated capacity to succeed in graduate studies
Prospective students are expected to demonstrate working knowledge of statistics, data structures and algorithms, databases and R software packages. These prerequisites can be documented through prior completion of university or college level degree credit courses equivalent to the following courses that are offered at the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education at Toronto Metropolitan University:
CIND 123: Data Analytics: Basic Methods (formerly CKME 132: Statistics and R Programming)
CIND 110: Data Organization for Data Analysts (formerly CKCS 110: Database Management)
CIND830 Python Programming for Data Science
(CIND830 Python Programming for Data Science replaces CCPS 305 Data Structures from the Fall 2020 term. The program will keep accepting CCPS305 as a prerequisite course for all those who complete it up to and including the Winter 2021 term)
In addition to the general requirements for admission to the Yeates School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University, the MSc program in Data Science and Analytics requires the following materials:
Statement of Interest (MRP option)
Your Statement of Interest should be no more than 500-1000 words and should address the following:
- Demonstrate working knowledge of statistics, data structures and algorithms, databases and R software packages. Please identify any courses in your transcript(s) that may cover these subject areas.
- How your previous studies and experience have prepared you for the program
- How this program relates to your career objectives
Statement of Interest (Thesis option)
Your Statement of Interest should be no more than 1000 words and should address the following:
- Demonstrate working knowledge of statistics, data structures and algorithms, databases and R software packages. Please identify any courses in your transcript(s) that may cover these subject areas.
- How your previous studies and experience have prepared you for the program
- How this program relates to your career objectives
- Provide the names of the professors who you would like to be your thesis supervisors based on same or similar research interests. These professors must be faculty members affiliated with the MSc program in Data Science and Analytics. Up to a maximum of three names may be provided. Please note that you do not need to contact the professors in question ahead of time, but just provide their names.
- Briefly expand on key research interest and area that you would like to conduct research on in your thesis
Curriculum Vitae/Resumé
Please submit an updated CV/resumé and highlight in your statement of interest how your previous studies and experiences have prepared you for graduate studies at Toronto Metropolitan University. Please be sure to include all applicable work experience and publications.
Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required for each application. The recommendations should be from academic referees – former professors or research supervisors familiar with applicant’s academic abilities.
