Faculty-Led Programs

Faculty-Led Programs are international academic initiatives in which a faculty member takes a group of students abroad. This may be referred to in different ways across the university, including but not limited to field trips, field studies, short-term intensives, faculty-led travel, etc.

If you are interested in participating in this type of activity abroad check in with your home academic department and faculty to see what may be available. Opportunities are often promoted on department websites and via email. For example, the Creative School has a list of International Intensives abroad available on their website. 

These activities include: 

TMU Global funds Faculty-Led Programs through our  (PDF file) Global Learning Programs Abroad (GLPA) Development grant. While faculty and staff apply directly to this grant to develop a program, students should keep an eye out for programs developed through the grant as a central component of the funding is directed at students who participate in chosen programs. 

To learn more about the different types of Faculty-Led Programs available and what students have to say about the experience, check out the following Toronto Met Today stories:

  • TRSM Retail students travel to NYC and Italy: For eight days a group of 15 students travelled to Rome, Florence and Milan, while another group of 18 students travelled to New York City.
  • Hong Kong 360: A group of 10 Journalism students travelled to Hong Kong with professor Adrian Ma to report and present street-level stories using 360-degree VR video technology.
  • NAISA 2019: A group of First Nations students from different disciplines across the university travelled to New Zealand with Damien Lee, associate fellow at the Yellowhead Institute, to attend NAISA (the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association conference).
  • So Speaks the Land: A theatrical piece created in partnership between the Wesatern Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) at Edith Cowan University, the University of Southern California and the School of Performance at Toronto Metropolitan University. Students from Toronto Metropolitan University and Edith Cowan travelled back and forth between Perth and Toronto to prepare and present the piece.
