Direct entry students (community college transfers)

Direct entry: A post-secondary degree pathway from college to university that recognizes the completion of a specific college diploma; credits earned in specific programs at an Ontario College are applied towards direct entry at Toronto Metropolitan University.

As a direct entry student, you will be admitted into your third year at the School of Business Management and start your plan/major on day one. There are seven majors: Economics and Management Science, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Global Management Studies, Human Resources Management, Law and Business, Marketing Management and Real Estate Management.

Note: When using Toronto Metropolitan University's online system, the term' major' is called 'plan'.

  • A Toronto Metropolitan University-approved three-year Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from a public Ontario College is required for admission consideration
  • The cumulative grade point average required for admission each year is determined on the basis of competition. Candidates are encouraged to present a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher to maximize their chances for admission consideration
  • Applicants will be considered for admission to third year, and will also be required to complete up to six courses from year two or provide evidence that equivalent courses have been taken

The following Majors are available for Direct Entry admission:

  • Economics and Management Science Major
  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation Major
  • Global Management Major (co-op available)
  • Human Resources Management Major (co-op available)
  • Law and Business Major (co-op available)
  • Marketing Management Major (co-op available)
  • Real Estate Management Major (co-op available)

Students interested in pursuing an Entrepreneurship and Innovation or Real Estate Management Major should know that the majority of courses required for the Major will not be available in the evening (at this time). Students wanting to pursue these Majors will have to take the majority of the required courses during the day.

Please note:

  • Part-time Business Management degree students may take up to a total of three (3) courses per semester. Students who want to take more than three courses per semester must apply to the full-time program
  • At this time, the co-op option is not available to part-time Direct Entry students

Reachback courses

Your offer of admission has outlined the ‘reachback’ requirements you must complete to graduate. ‘Reachback’ courses are additional courses required by your program plan. Direct entry students must complete the curriculum for semesters five, six, seven and eight, as specified by your chosen major, in addition to the ‘reach back’ courses listed below.

Direct entry students can apply for a maximum number of transfer credits equivalent to the number of ‘reachbacks’ assigned in your Offer of Admission. For example, if you are assigned 5 ‘reachbacks’ courses on your offer, you may apply for a maximum of 5 transfer credits toward your degree.

Transfer credits are only official after validation by the Transfer Credit Unit of the Registrar's Office.

Note: There are a limited number of applicable transfer credits. The information below will help you to determine which courses to submit transfer credit applications for.

Transfer credits

To determine which transfer credits to apply for, you will require the following:

  1. Your offer of admission – to confirm your ‘reachback’ courses.

  2. A copy of your college transcript – to confirm courses taken and grades received.

  3. Please use the Toronto Metropolitan University Undergraduate Calendar to determine which eligible transfer credits apply toward your 5th through 8th-semester requirements (required, core electives, and open electives courses).

Under each major, you can view the third-year direct-entry full-time or part-time program section in the TMU undergraduate calendar.

Please visit Transfer Credits for detailed information on how to apply online or submit a manual application. Please be sure to adhere to the transfer credit deadlines.

For further assistance, you are welcome to contact your Undergraduate program advisor
