Established in 1980, the Gerrard Resource Centre (GRC) was initially developed to fill a gap in the supports available to families and children in the downtown core. The GRC began by offering a variety of programs and services designed to meet the immediate needs of families through respite, child care and a variety of family drop in hours. Partnerships with academic institutions and local community organizations contributed to the success and longevity of these programs. Private and public funders allowed for the GRC to pilot many innovative family programs to ensure our families received the resources, support and services they needed to help them thrive as a family.
Since 1982, the GRC has worked in partnership with Ryerson University School of Early Childhood Studies, gaining knowledge and expertise by collaborating with the faculty and staff. The GRC staff played a pivotal role in creating the family support principles and vision statement that is widely used throughout Ontario.
The GRC remains committed to serving families and children in our community through our continued partnership with the School of Early Childhood Studies and by offering two distinct programs funded by the City of Toronto Children Services Division. The GRC is proud to offer services to families through our EarlyON Child and Family Center and the Every Child Belongs Resource Consultation Program.
