Recommended Computers and Options

* CCS will only support Dell XPS models purchased prior to September 30th, 2023. Dell Latitude 9xxx models replace the Dell XPS models.

CCS will only provide support for Dell Latitude (laptop), OptiPlex (Desktop), and Precision (laptop & workstation) models. CCS will continue to support Dell XPS computers purchased prior to September 30th, 2023.

CCS Dell Supported devices are:

• Thoroughly evaluated and tested to meet CCS performance standards
• Compatible with the Toronto Metropolitan University networks (Ethernet & Wi-Fi)
• Setup and configured by CCS Technicians 
• Fully supported by CCS as a Dell Authorized Warranty Service Depot for supported Dell products.  
• Supported after initial warranty period expiration with no labor charges for repairs done by CCS Technicians. Client pays for defective part(s) in excess of $10.

All TMU standard computers will come with Microsoft Windows 11 Home edition. If you fall under the Microsoft Campus Licensing agreement and your computer is imaged by CCS, it will be set up with Windows 11 Enterprise edition.

Securing Dell Laptops – CCS recommends the use of “noble wedge” type laptop security cable and/or Absolute Resilience (see below).

Note:  Due to fluctuations in the exchange rate between Canadian and US dollars, the prices for computing equipment may vary. If you do not have access to Dell Premier, contact your department purchasing agent, Purchasing and/or CCS (via the CCS Help Desk)

Apple MAC Computer Support

CCS will provide limited support (Imaging, and software O/S support). CCS cannot provide hardware support for Apple MAC computers

Absolute Resilience

• Absolute Resilience is a subscription based software tool to assist with finding lost and/or stolen computing devices.  
• Ability to remotely wipe disk/files on lost or stolen computer
• Available for both Dell and Apple MAC computers
  • Dell computers can be order with Absolute Resllience pre-installed 
  • Can be added to Dell computers after purchase
  • Absolute Resilience is ordered from Dell for both Apple MAC and Dell computers
  • Absolute Resilience can be installed at TMU after the Apple Mac computer is delivered
• Once it is installed on Dell computers (not Apple), Absolute Resilience can only be uninstalled by CCS (if stolen, thieves cannot remove the software).
• If needed, Absolute will work with local law enforcement to recover the device.
• Insurance policy will pay out if laptops are not recovered by Absolute.

Why purchase Dell computers & accessories using the Toronto Metropolitan University Premier portal site from Dell?

• Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) gets OECM pricing for many products, offering substantial savings and more stable pricing.
• 3-year minimum warranty standard for Business class computers (OptiPlex, Precision, Latitude), Business class monitors (P and U series), and Docking stations. Purchasing Dell products from retailers usually include a 1-year warranty.
• You get current models, whereas other retailers might offer older models.

CCS will only provide support for Lexmark laser printer models.

Lexmark Supported devices are:

• Thoroughly evaluated and tested to meet CCS performance standards
• Compatible with the Toronto Metropolitan University wired network (Ethernet)
• Setup and configured by CCS Technicians
• Fully supported by CCS as a Lexmark Authorized Warranty Service Depot for supported Lexmark products.  
• Supported after initial warranty period expiration with no labor charges for repairs done by CCS Technicians. Client pays for defective part(s) in excess of $10.  
• Consumables (toner, rollers, maintenance kits, etc.) are not included under the warranty

Due to TMU Network security, wireless printers do not function on the TMU wireless network.

CCS does not recommend the use of 3rd party or refilled toner cartridges. Any issues associated with their use are not covered by the Manufacturer’s warranty and the Department/School will be charged for replacement parts. CCS will charge for any cleaning required related to a 3rd party or refilled toner.
