Bridging Divides Travel Grants for TMU Scholars
Call for Spring Applications
Description
Bridging Divides Travel Grants provide researchers and highly qualified personnel (HQP) currently working on Bridging Divides research projects at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), with funding for project-related travel.
Travel can be for the purpose of data collection or participation in conferences, workshops, or symposiums related to Bridging Divides research.
There are two competitions per academic year:
- Applications for the 2024 Fall competition are due October 30, 2024 (now closed)
- Applications for the 2025 Spring competition are due May 1, 2025
Funding will be awarded to eligible researchers, affiliated researchers and HQP who will have an active or significant role in the proposed travel. For example, applicants could be conducting fieldwork or they could be acting as a speaker, chair, discussant, or presenter at a conference or workshop.

Applicants must submit the completed application by 11:59PM on the deadline date. |
Applicants who require assistance preparing their application should communicate with the Bridging Divides administrative team at bridging.divides@torontomu.ca well in advance of the application deadline. The competition results will be made available to successful and unsuccessful applicants via email.
Merit Review
Applications are reviewed, and available funds awarded, through a competitive merit review process. Program reviewers base funding decisions on the relevance of the proposed travel to further the objectives of the BD research program. Proposals will be adjudicated by the Scientific Director, Executive Director and administrative staff. The adjudication committee discussions and recommendations will be guided by the principle of minimum essential funding.
Post-travel Monitoring and Reporting
Applicants are expected to report on the use of grant funds including activities undertaken during the funding period and outcomes resulting from travel. Please provide a one-page summary of activities undertaken during the trip including but not limited to:
- how the travel experience has enriched your research
- how the travel will contribute to the overall goals of the Bridging Divides research program
- insights regarding personal learning and development
- expected outcomes, including networking opportunities and opportunities for future collaborations
The summary should be submitted within one week following your return to bridging.divides@torontomu.ca. Please note that reporting is mandatory. Bridging Divides will not consider future travel applications from individuals with outstanding reports.
