Call for Expressions of Interest — Externally Funded Fellowships

Bridging Divides supports externally funded postdoctoral fellowship applications to host top-quality researchers
Bridging Divides (BD) invites top-quality researchers working in the broader area of migration and integration studies to submit an expression of interest for externally funded fellowships to be hosted by one of Bridging Divides academic partner institutions.
Selected candidates will receive support from Bridging Divides in preparing and applying to the externally funded postdoctoral fellowship of their choice. If successful, those candidates will be hosted by the Bridging Divides research program at Toronto Metropolitan University. Fellowships may also be hosted by a BD partner institution: Concordia University, University of Alberta or the University of British Columbia.
BD welcomes applications under the following thematic calls:
- Immigrant Health and Well-Being
- Employment and Lifelong Learning
- Place and Infrastructure
- Citizenship and Participation
Proposals should align with one or more of these priority areas, demonstrating their relevance to the broader goals of Bridging Divides.
Non-thematic applications will also be considered for review.
How to apply
To apply, please submit the following application package via this online form (external link) by June 20, 2024.
The package needs to include:
- A concise CV (2-4 pages)
- A brief outline of a research proposal (1-2 pages)
Your research proposal should clearly articulate your intended study and its alignment with BD’s thematic areas. Kindly note that only a handful of applicants will be retained for further preparation of a submission to one of the schemes outlined below.
Shortlisted applicants will be informed by early July. Before applying, please ensure that you meet all eligibility requirements for your preferred fellowship opportunity.

The objective of the Postdoctoral Fellowships is to support researchers’ careers and foster excellence in research. The Postdoctoral Fellowships action targets researchers holding a PhD who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills and develop their careers. Postdoctoral Fellowships help researchers gain experience in other countries, disciplines and non-academic sectors.

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships program provides support to a core of the most promising researchers at a pivotal time in their careers. The fellowships are intended to secure a supply of highly qualified Canadians with leading-edge scientific and research skills for Canadian industry, government and academic institutions.
NSERC supports research whose major challenges lie in the natural sciences and engineering, other than the health sciences. The intended objective(s) of your research must primarily be to advance knowledge in one or more natural sciences and engineering disciplines.

Mitacs is a national not-for-profit organization that works with institutions, companies and the federal and provincial governments to promote and support innovation. Postdoctoral opportunities available through Mitacs include the following programs: Globalink Research Award, Accelerate, Elevate and the Canadian Science Policy Fellowship.

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Postdoctoral Fellowships support the most promising Canadian new scholars in the social sciences and humanities, and assist them in establishing a research base at an important time in their research careers.
