The opportunity
The Bridging Divides research program offers Steps to Success Internships to provide training, mentorship, and paid employment to TMU undergraduate students who self-identify as being part of underrepresented and equity-deserving groups. This in-person work-integrated program offers robust training and mentorship opportunities to help students cultivate essential skills and prepare for professional life.
Bridging Divides has allocated twelve internship positions valued at a maximum of $15,000 per student. The internships can be taken full-time (30 hours per week in the Summer), or part-time (15 hours per week in the Fall and Winter terms), for a maximum of 16 weeks in each term.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for an internship, interested students must meet eligibility requirements:
- Be a domestic or international undergraduate student enrolled full-time at Toronto Metropolitan University;
- Cannot have completed all their degree requirements (graduating students can not take part after graduation);
- Have obtained, over the previous years of study, a cumulative average GPA of 2.67 or higher;
- Cannot be currently registered or have been previously registered, at any time, in a graduate program in the same field of study. If a student already holds a bachelor’s degree and is studying toward a second bachelor’s degree, they may still apply for this internship.

How to apply
To participate, interested students must review the Bridging Divides Research Themes (opens in new window) and identify a Research Project (opens in new window) that aligns with their interests. Applicants need to submit a full (google form) Student Application Form (external link, opens in new window) , including:
- Self-identification with underrepresented and equity-deserving group(s);
- Identification of the Bridging Divides Theme and Research Project of interest;
- A short resume, motivation letter, and transcript, combined in one document.
In their motivation letter, students should convincingly explain:

- How a Steps to Success Internship will benefit their educational and career goals.?
- Successful candidates will be paired with a Bridging Divides researcher who will supervise their work. The Researcher Supervisor will train and mentor the undergraduate student with the skills needed to build their academic and professional careers.
The deadline for applications is April 7, 2025.
Maintaining Full-Time Enrolment and Student Status
Steps to Success interns must maintain full-time enrolment, be actively engaged and be in attendance in their undergraduate program. Should they withdraw, transfer to part-time status, or fail to complete the term, Bridging Divides will terminate the internship. Interns are expected to participate in-person at the events and activities of Bridging Divides.
