Writing Your Accommodated Test
In-Person Tests & Exams
Look up your test writing location
- Make sure you know where to go to write your test. Your test booking reminder email will tell you your test-writing location.
- Checking in at the wrong location or getting lost on the way will not be accepted as a valid reason for arriving late or failing to attend.

Masks
- The university continues to welcome the use of masks in exam rooms.
- If you'd like to use a mask during your exam or at any other time while on campus, please feel free to pick one up at one of our on-campus locations.
Please leave valuable items at home - the ATC is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or broken items.
Please be aware that the ATC is a scent-aware space.
- Check your test booking reminder email for the location of your test.
- If the room location is listed as "Online - Off Campus," your test is written remotely.
- If the room location indicates a specific room on campus, your test is written in-person. You may go directly to the testing room indicated in your email.
- If you're note sure where to find the room, visit the ATC Administrative Office located in the Victoria (VIC) Building - Lower Level (285 Victoria Street) for assistance.
- For quizzes, tests, and midterms: arrive at your assigned writing location at least 15-minutes prior to the start time
- For final exams: arrive at your assigned writing location at least 30-minutes prior to the start time
- Check in with your invigilator. You will present your TMU OneCard (or a valid government issued identification with a picture) to your invigilator upon arrival, and it will remain on your desk during the course of your test
- Turn off or silence any electronic devices.
- Store your belongings. Place coats, bags, books and other personal belongings (including electronic devices/cell phones) in a designated area. Electronic devices cannot be in your pocket or on your wrist, as per the Academic Integrity Policy. You are not able to go into your bag or pockets during an exam.
- The ATC will not compensate students for time lost due to late arrival.
- If you are less than 30-minutes late: If you arrive at your writing location within 30-minutes from the start time, that amount of time will be deducted from your overall writing time.
- if you are more than 30-minutes late: If you are more than 30-minutes late, only your instructor can provide approval to write your exam. If the ATC cannot get in touch with your instructor, you will need to follow up with them directly for next steps.
- If you miss your test: If you miss your test for any reason (such as emergency, illness, error, or oversight) you must contact you instructor immediately. The ATC is not responsible for follow-up with the you or your instructor concerning a missed test/exam.
- When the conclusion of a test is announced, you must stop writing and refrain from adding information to, erasing information from, or otherwise altering the test.
- All test materials must be submitted before leaving the test location. This includes any rough notes, if applicable.
Sequestering
- If your test finishes before the class writing time, you must stay 30-minutes into the class writing time.
- For example, if your class is writing at 3:00 PM, and you finish at 2:30 PM, you are required to stay under invigilation until 3:30 PM.
- The ATC upholds all University Senate Policies related to Academic Integrity, Tests & Exams, and Academic Accommodations (Policy 60, Policy 135, Policy 145, Policy 159).
- Students are expected to comply with instructions given by the invigilator or staff members of the ATC.
- Civil behaviour is expected at all times. Behaving in a verbally or physically abusive, demeaning, threatening, or intimidating manner toward the invigilator or other ATC staff may be subject to consequences outlined in the (PDF file) Student Code of Non-Academic Conduct (Policy 61).
- Impersonation for the purpose of writing a test/exam will be deemed an academic offence.
- In the case of emergency (i.e., fire alarms etc.), students are expected to follow the directions of an invigilator and evacuate the exam room in an orderly manner.
- Students are prohibited from obtaining assistance that compromises the integrity of a test/exam being written the university. This includes students who have, in their possession, unauthorized materials or any electronic devices. Remember: “It’s not just a cell phone, it’s an unauthorized aid.”
- Recording any answers prior to the commencement of a test/exam is not permitted.
- During the writing of a test/exam, students are not permitted to communicate with anyone except the invigilator. ATC invigilators cannot answer any content related questions regarding the test/exam being written.
- In case of a personal need of any sort (e.g., illness, washroom), the student must inform an invigilator and request assistance or permission to leave the exam room. Please note: only one student is permitted to use the washroom at a time.

- Your computer with an internet connection. Ensure your internet is working and login in to D2L. We advise checking-in at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled test/exam start time listed above. If you have any connection issues, communicate with your instructor immediately
- Materials expressly authorized by your instructor (if applicable).
- Identification (if applicable). Check-in with your instructor prior to writing regarding what identification is required to write the virtual test.
You are expected to follow the same rules for online/virtual exams as they are for in-person assessments.
Unless otherwise specified, you are not permitted to use any electronic devices or unauthorized aids during your test, and you should not be accessing your personal belongings.
Use of unauthorized aids and devices during a virtual test may be a violation of the University's Student Code of Academic Conduct ( (PDF file) Policy 60). Your instructor may choose to report any suspected violations to the Academic Integrity Office.

- If you miss your test: If you miss your test for any reason (such as emergency, illness, error, or oversight) you must contact you instructor immediately. The ATC is not responsible for follow-up with the you or your instructor concerning a missed test/exam.
Should your instructor provide a period of time to write a test (i.e. a 3-day window in which you can choose when to write), you can access the test throughout the entire time period appropriate to your course and individual accommodations.
