Closed Circuit Television on Campus
Toronto Metropolitan University uses closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras on campus and in some buildings. They operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The TMU community is made up of students, faculty, staff and members of the public. With thousands of visitors moving through our campus daily, our top priority is fostering an environment that promotes the safety, security and dignity of all community members.
CCTV cameras are one measure that may be used to assist with that goal. Not only can CCTV cameras work to discourage people from committing crimes, they may help to identify people who do commit crimes on our campus.
Your privacy
Pursuant to Section 39(2) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (1990), the images from CCTV are collected under the authority of the Toronto Metropolitan University Act (1977) and are needed to monitor the safety and security of the premises, to assist in investigations and other related and consistent purposes.
