All successful domestic applicants are offered funding packages along with admission.

Funding Packages

MSc Package Composition

MSc graduate funding packages typically consist of the following components. Note that these are minimum amounts, but students who are awarded certain internal and external scholarships and awards may have a significantly higher funding package total.

  • Stipend from supervisor: $8,000 minimum
  • Institutional support: $8,000 minimum for domestic students
  • Teaching assistantship (TA): $7,200
    A typical TA load is one section per semester, but willing students may take on up to double the normal load. Assistantships may be renewable based on performance.

PhD Package Composition

PhD graduate funding packages typically consist of the following components. Note that these are minimum amounts, but students who are awarded certain scholarships and awards may have a significantly higher funding package total.

  • Stipend from supervisor: $10,000 minimum
  • Institutional support: $9,500 minimum for domestic students
  • Teaching assistantship (TA): $8,000
    A typical TA load is one section per semester, but willing students may take on up to double the normal load. Assistantships may be renewable based on performance.

Scholarships and Awards

MSc and PhD funding packages reflect base amounts offered to all successful domestic applicants to the program. However, some students successfully compete for internal or external scholarships and awards, which can significantly increase their funding package total.

Scholarships and awards can include internal Toronto Metropolitan awards, program-specific, federal, provincial, international or other external awards and scholarships. Some examples include the Canada Graduate Scholarship and the Ontario Graduate Scholarship.
