Library Introduction

Learn about the Library’s extensive resources and services available to support your teaching and research.  We will cover copyright and online teaching, digital course reading service eReserves, and Open Educational Resources. Other topics covered include an overview of the Library’s Research Help Services and how to access the comprehensive collection of research databases, eBooks, and statistical and data sources. We will also provide you with contact information for your department subject liaison librarians and discuss how they can work with you in providing library instruction/research sessions for your classes, help you identify relevant journals for publication, and show you how to use citation management tools. This session will be facilitated by the Head of Library Learning Services and the Copyright and Scholarly Engagement Librarian.

Research and Innovation at Toronto Metropolitan University

Please join the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation (OVPRI) and learn about the resources and services available to help new faculty plan and support their scholarly, research and creative (SRC) academic activity at the university. 

This information session will provide an introduction to OVPRI staff and services related to research grants, research ethics and commercialization. The Yeates School of Graduate Studies (YSGS) will also present an overview for new faculty as part of this session.

Promoting Academic Integrity in Your Remote Courses

With the move to online education, it has become more important than ever to promote academic integrity and thus prevent academic misconduct. In this workshop, offered by the Academic Integrity Office, we will discuss:

  • Strategies to promote integrity in your remote courses
  • Best practices around prevention of academic misconduct in an online environment
  • Current issues impacting academic integrity, such as contract cheating

Flexible Learning and Academic Accommodations in Remote Teaching

Working with a diverse student body that includes students with disabilities requires instructors to use innovative and creative teaching methods to ensure the inclusion and engagement of all students, especially in a remote teaching environment. In this workshop, we will look at common accommodations at Toronto Metropolitan University and discuss efficient and effective strategies to not only assist students with disabilities, but also create an accessible online experience for all students.

Academic Accommodation Support and Virtual Teaching

Toronto Metropolitan University's office of Academic Accommodation Support (AAS) recognizes that online learning presents new opportunities, and sometimes new challenges, for students with disabilities. Designed specifically for faculty and instructors, this session addresses the shared responsibility of accommodating students and reviews AAS' adapted online processes. We will offer a brief overview of current trends, highlighting relevant policy and procedures, and discuss key considerations related to Toronto Metropolitan University's virtual environment.

Online Tests and Exams: Accommodated and Make-Up Tests

Presented by Toronto Metropolitan University’s Test Centre, this webinar will address the processes for accommodating students with disabilities in online testing environments, as well as make-up Test Centre processes for the Fall semester. We will discuss faculty/instructor responsibilities for administering accommodated online tests, identify how the Test Centre processes have been adapted to support faculty, and share details about setting up accommodated tests in D2L.

From introduction to Google Drive to advanced teaching functions in Zoom, the Teaching Centre offered a series of workshops, in July and August, designed for New Faculty.

Introduction to Google Drive and Collaborating with Google Docs for New Faculty 

Google Drive offers unlimited storage space to everyone at Toronto Metropolitan University to store files online and access them from anywhere, on any device with an internet connection. Google Drive also gives you access to web-based applications for creating documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and more. This 2 hour Introduction to Google Drive training course includes some demonstrations and hands-on activities to get you started on uploading and storing files, colloborating with Google Docs, sharing and permission settings and much more.

Facilitated by CCS, Amira Rezkalla and Matthew Long. This workshop took place on July 7 and August 6, 2020.

D2L Brightspace Basics for New Faculty 

This session is for instructors who plan to teach using Brightspace at Toronto Metropolitan University for the first time! We will cover the very basics of getting a course shell and the first few things you might do once you have one.’
